About Dr. Kawai

Dr. Kawai’s interest in medicine was sparked while she was studying for her bachelor's degree and one of her close family members suffered from a medical issue involving the eyes.

Dr. Kawai, who was already aspiring towards a future in healthcare, decided that caring for people’s eyes was what she wanted to do. “I already knew I wanted to be a doctor,” she explains, “but that experience really tipped the balance for me toward becoming an optometrist.”

Today, her favorite part of the job is educating and building relationships with her patients. She loves teaching patients—especially her younger ones—about how to keep their eyes healthy.

Dr. Kawai also loves the investigative nature of her work, especially because each condition and disease affects eyesight so differently. Oftentimes, she’s the first person to spot a condition in its early stages, like cataracts or glaucoma, so she takes her time during each routine exam to make sure everything is intact and all tissues are functioning properly.

Dr. Kawai’s patients love her because she takes the time to listen to them and genuinely cares about what’s going on in their lives. She uses her friendly relationships with patients to provide even better care. If a patient has a new job that involves more screen time, Dr. Kawai can adjust their glasses and prescription to ensure their eyes are totally comfortable throughout the day.

She loves being able to help her patients live more comfortably.

To me, educating patients on the health of their eyes is just as important as the nature of their prescription.
